Living in hospital accommodation? Are you having to pay rent for rooms that are not up to scratch? Join the Accommodation Inspection Campaign and check that your accommodation meets national standards. The inspection campaign is part of the BMA FHO1 accommodation campaign.
What is the Accommodation Inspection Campaign?
There is a set of agreed standards that hospital accommodation should meet [HSC 2000/036]. If accommodation fails to meet these standards the Terms and Conditions of Service state that accommodation must be provided free of charge until improvements have been completed. The JDC is asking doctors in training who live in hospital accommodation to inspect their accommodation to ascertain whether it meets these agreed standards Information on the agreed standards can be found in the Accommodation Inspection Pack.
How do I take part?
You should inspect your accommodation using the Inspection Pack . If your accommodation fails to meet the standards the inspection pack will guide you through the process of what steps you need to take. This is part of the FHO1 accommodation campaign which the BMA launched in May 2008.

Why should I take part?
The JDC wants to ensure that hospital accommodation is up to standard and that the problems are put right. Accommodation that is not up to standard can be lived in rent free until the necessary changes are made. The JDC wants hospital accommodation throughout England to be inspected and we need your help to do it.
The first step - Download your Accommodation Inspection Pack
The JDC has developed a pack of useful resources, as a membership benefit, to help you undertake your inspection, including template letters, a step-by-step guide, a tool that will indicate whether your accommodation has passed or failed the inspection, and some FAQs. The Accommodation Inspection Pack is only available to BMA members so you will need to log in to view this.
If a junior doctor joins the BMA prior to the inspection being carried out the issue does not predate membership and we can assist on issues arising from the inspection. Join the BMA here.
