Official launch of Hammicks BMA Medical Bookshop
27 June 2005
The official launch of the Hammicks BMA Medical Bookshop took place during the ARM today, Monday 27 June. BMA Treasurer, David Pickersgill said that John Smith and Son had decided to rebrand the bookshop to further strengthen the link between the bookshop, the Association and our members. John Smith and Son bought the books retail part of the bookshop last year.
Dr Pickersgill said" The BMA acknowledges that medical textbooks are still are vital source of important information for anyone studying medicine. The new name not only makes a very clear statement that the BMA is supporting its members by providing high quality and relevant services, but allows John Smith and Son to align the medical bookshop with their other brands, Hammicks Legal Bookshop and Hammicks Educational Bookshops, which are already well established in their respective markets.
"At a time when the Association is actively trying to recruit significant numbers of medical students we are already exploring ways in which the new Hammicks BMA Medical Bookshop can work with us to support the recruitment drive by enhancing the membership offering to students.
"The physical bookshop is based here in Manchester, but with the majority of business now conducted over the web or by mail order any member with internet access can order online or by 'phone and take advantage of the 5% discount on all books, and enjoy additional deep discounts on selected titles and special member offers.
"I view the advent of the Hammicks BMA Medical Bookshop brand as a very exciting development for the BMA - one that offers very tangible benefits of membership - and I would like to take this opportunity to give the bookshop under its new name my personal support and wish it every success in providing high quality services to members."
